The kernel's interoperability modes

Everything that reaches the kernel reaches it in one of a few declared ways, and the kernel says which one it heard. This page is those ways side by side: how a person addresses the kernel; how much of the person a task takes; how an agent is addressed; the doors themselves; and where a life stands.

1 · How humans address the kernel — the kind of an ask

Section titled “1 · How humans address the kernel — the kind of an ask”

There are no chat modes. The chip under the composer reads the kind from your words — thought · objective · intention — and one click or one word flips it. The kind is minted as the ask’s marker, with the ask, in one transaction, so the kernel read this as an objective; you confirmed is on the record.

Kind Say What it is
thought what is the temperature outside? One answer, now. Nothing in the world changes.
objective objective: get the weather tool healthy again A bounded outcome the crew owns until it is done: the planner writes the steps, the crew acts, the Analyzer shows the tree under its origin.
intention keep this world resilient: when a watch goes red, get it green A standing purpose above objectives, with no end and a stop. It wakes on what it is interested in — a red watch, a clock — plans the next objective itself and files it; the loop turns.
a cadence echo, every 5 seconds, say the time, please The smallest intention: cadence only. echo, stop rests it; echo, restart intention ‘every 5 seconds’ stands it again.

An intention is a record: its words, what it serves (business · security · resiliency · compliance · cost), its kind (a human’s, a role’s, the kernel’s), the marker kinds it is interested in, its planner, its cadence, its gates, its stop. The kernel declares its own at boot with no end and each with its stop — Business · Security · Resiliency · Compliance · Cost — and, since the operating state landed, THE OPERATING STATE, which owns the watches on the five measurements while Resiliency answers every other red. Saying the kernel’s own words yourself is refused with the reason: the kernel’s is at work; stop it first, or say what is different.

The markers are the loop’s vocabulary: an intention is a root, its objectives children, their acts and observations under them; every fact wears its marker (why) beside its chain (who). The Analyzer is that tree, by origin.

2 · The human’s dial of involvement — manual · assist · full auto

Section titled “2 · The human’s dial of involvement — manual · assist · full auto”

The kind of your ask decides how far the kernel goes without you, and it never goes one step further without a word from you. The three modes are the human’s dial, never the machine running alone.

Mode The ask The kernel’s part Your part
manual a thought one body answers once the question; you are the whole loop
manual assist an objective the planner writes the steps, the crew runs them; any step that would change something holds one word to start, one word at each hold; stop it at any time, what was left undone is said
full auto an intention, or a brief in the Studio observes, reads the ground itself, plans, pulls a routine lever with its own hands, says what happened; you are told, not asked declare once; decide holds when they come; rest it when you want

One law holds the dial together: a consequence holds for a person in every mode. A routine act runs at once; a consequential act holds at the interlock until a person clicks Yes, with Cancel the default and the focus; a grave act asks for your authenticator’s code and a declared master’s click. The kernel never lowers the ladder because it is running on its own. Expected impact? on any hold asks the Master Mind In The Loop who and what the act touches first.

In the Studio, full auto is a brief: the workshop agent plans the set, drafts every craft on a bench and files one held act, put ‹name› to work, for your single Yes. It never cuts, promotes, seats, registers or answers a hold, and it never passes the gate or the promotion by itself — the Experiment judges and the promotion is a second Yes. Three things always tell you which mode a thing is in: the chip under the composer, the hold row, and the Analyzer with every intention and objective by origin and its stop. The agent makes it all.

3 · How agents are addressed — the hull’s three edges

Section titled “3 · How agents are addressed — the hull’s three edges”

Every body runs the hull — hear → recall → route → work → the reply — and at route the ask’s marker picks one of three edges. They are the three ways an agent is addressed, and the journey says which one it took.

Edge Who is speaking Examples
chat a human’s words to a body echo, say the word HERON once; lang1, hello from the bench; a brief to the workshop agent
work assigned work — a duty on the clock, or an objective the intent loop filed the librarian’s hourly review; the kernel’s harness run; echo, every 5 seconds, say the time; an objective’s steps
event a response to a marker the body declared interest in the four reviewers asked under an experiment’s marker; the critic under an improvement; Resiliency’s planner under a watch-red

A template declares the marker kinds it is interested in, and the kernel dispatches it an ask whenever such a marker lands, with that marker as the parent. The chain says who; the marker says why. The hull draws the ring.

The HTTP doors. The Rust kernel orrethd is THE door on port 4600; it serves the one page and every door of the world. A seat — the capability token the kernel signed after your code — is read at every door, never the page; the unseated wear one face (401 {"error": "not seated"}), a seated person lacking a grant wears the proof’s (403), the browser origin is closed and a knock ceiling stands per person. A body’s door is its lease, the same shape of token, chained to the kernel’s root and opening the body’s own words and nothing more. The HTTP doors.

The feed. The glass listens to one stream of small notices — a kind, an id, a reference — and reads each fact through a door; the browser never touches a broker. The map counts the feed’s topics live.

MCP servers, through one door. toolkeeper, add the MCP server at ‹command or URL› lands a server and its tools on the shelf as identities, each on the lifecycle ladder; its secrets ride by env name only. A template names the tools a body may use (a node may narrow them further, never widen), and an MCP-born tool a template names is offered only while its server stands on the shelf, so a ground without the server loses nothing and says nothing false. The two LangChain docs servers on the shelf are reached this way by the workshop agent and the librarian.

The seam, between cells. A universe is a cell — its own kernel self, database and role, sealed from every other. Two cells that name each other speak over one door, the seam, in messages signed by their kernels’ own selves, the peer’s DID pinned on first sight. librarian@two, what is the weather? routes home and is answered here; under partition it parks in plain words and resumes once. How two worlds speak.

Two kernels, one law. The Python reference on port 4601 is the same kernel written first and stays the yardstick: every law is pinned by a conformance fixture both kernels pass unchanged, and the canonical bytes — sorted keys, compact separators, ASCII — are byte-identical across the SDK, the reference and the kernel. The Studio’s doors (the benches, the hops, the map) landed on both kernels inside each spoonful, never after.

5 · Where a life stands — universe · floor · room

Section titled “5 · Where a life stands — universe · floor · room”

One kernel per cell serves three levels on one scope path: the universe (the cell itself), its floors, and their rooms — u:dev/f:ops/r:bob. Each level is staffed: a crew can be seated on any level by the manifest, what a body writes about itself wears its level, and a listing at a level sees everything within it. Governance tightens down the path — a prod universe’s floors and rooms are prod, and open room loose on floor three as dev under a prod floor is refused in words. Recall escalates up the path.
