One word to work
Before the Studio, an agent reached the gate through three cuts, each held at the interlock, each with its own Yes, and a walk could stall on “already exists” or “nothing to cut” between them. Now the ladder is one word: put ‹name› to work. The bench’s PUT TO WORK button and the chat’s word are one door, and a governing seat’s word is needed, as for any cut.
What the one word does
Section titled “What the one word does”The kernel reads the bench against the shelf, in order:
- every prompt and skill the graph names — a graph that names a prompt no body can read is not whole, so these are cut first; one that is neither drafted nor standing refuses in words;
- the graph (‹name›.v0);
- the golden set;
- the template — the agent itself.
A changed draft is a cut as the next version. The same bytes already standing on the shelf are a line on the hold — stands (version 1) — unchanged, skipped — never a wall. Then the Experiment opens on the agent’s own cut, and the bench moves to THE CARD.
It is one consequential act, held once at L2. The hold names every cut before your Yes:
Putting work1 to work — the graph work1.v0 as version 1 · the golden set work1 as version 1 · the agent work1 as version 1 → the experiment
Nothing is on the shelf until the Yes; at the Yes the chain runs in the settle’s one transaction, and each cut is still its own recorded fact on the shelf. The Yes is a click on either face — the chat’s hold or the bench’s card — never Enter.
Refused in words before any hold when something is missing (no graph, no golden set, no template draft), when nothing changed (the work1 template stands unchanged (version 1) — an experiment needs a change to judge: change what work1 is for, or its graph, then put it to work again), or while an experiment on that agent is already running. Filed twice while its hold still waits for you, it refuses too — one act, one hold.
The gate — the Experiment judges
Section titled “The gate — the Experiment judges”An agent’s template never cuts straight onto the shelf. On your Yes an experiment room opens on a floor of the path (exp-work1-1 on floor ops) and the candidate runs there as a trial life of the agent’s own self — the same keypair, a real body process — through its golden set, beside the standing version when there is one (a first version has one arm, said honestly). Then four reviewers are asked under the experiment’s marker, each reading the kernel’s record of the arms and signing a verdict under its own name:
| Reviewer | What it signs |
|---|---|
| the grader | a grade per arm and a side |
| the critic | what changed and a risk: low · medium · high |
| the identity chip | identity: kept or broken — the trial life joined as the agent’s own self, stood where it said, left whole |
| the security chip | security: clear or concern — what the candidate may do that the standing version may not, against the refusals ground |
The same grader also grades every seated body’s live replies for the kernel’s Trust measurement; the operating state says how the gate and the measurements relate. Every reviewer is told the harness’s law: a golden case names short words the reply must contain, so HELLO inside hello work1 is a pass. Broken claims or a concern hold the promotion; a chip not seated or silent is said as missing, never guessed. The verdict is a proposal: THE EXPERIMENT card lands on the bench and in the chat with the arms, every reviewer by name, and where the evidence leans — promote · hold · unsure. While the trial runs, the canvas lights the hops it takes; the card’s replay case N plays them again.
A failed golden case is a pass of the gate, not of the agent. The card offers fix the golden cases: the experiment declined, the wizard back at GOLDEN CASES, SAVE, and PUT TO WORK again — what stands is skipped, the golden set lands as its next version, a new experiment opens.
The promotion — a second, separate Yes
Section titled “The promotion — a second, separate Yes”| Say | What happens |
|---|---|
| put work1 to work | The chain above: one hold, every cut named; the Experiment opened on your Yes. |
| show the experiments · show the seats | Every experiment, newest first, with its state and leaning; every promoted agent’s seat — where its life stands, its template’s version, its rung. |
| promote work1 · promote work1 to floor ops · promote work1 to room x on floor ops | The stamped promotion, held at L2 (a resident’s template asks your code, L3). Where the next life stands is its one field: unsaid, the agent stands where it stands now, else at the universe; an experiment room is refused — nothing stands there but an arm. On your Yes the candidate lands as the next version, the draft is spent, the seat is written, and the kernel seats the agent’s next life from the shelf. The chat’s card carries a picker for the place; the bench’s PROMOTE button says the pick as a word. |
| decline the work1 experiment | Your no — routine, recorded. The draft stays on the bench to fix; the room stands, a level is never deleted. |
| say hello to work1 · work1, hello | The joined agent answers; the bench closes by itself at JOINED and the agent stands in the chat’s residents rail above the house. |
| rest work1 · decommission work1 · restore work1 | The ladder: rest at L2 (a safe boundary, the self kept); decommission at L3 for a rested body only (its lease, bench, key and mind removed; its DID and record stay); restore a new life from the shelf, never a revival. |
The honest record of the walk
Section titled “The honest record of the walk”Step 11 of the Studio walk was walked by JB on 2026-10-14 and passed, validated on the ground: one hold filed; the graph and the golden set on the shelf at the Yes, in one transaction; the experiment proposed with four signed reviewers; promoted, the template landing then; the agent seated on a floor; the second try refused template stands unchanged. Found and cured the same day: going back to NAME and typing a new name had forked the bench (now the effort moves — the work4 bench let go — the effort continues as work5); a declared graph’s trial had lit nothing on the canvas (now every node the hull walks is a hop under the graph’s own name); the critic had read a lawful pass as a broken yardstick (now every reviewer is told the harness’s law).
Two more were found by the kernel’s own proofs on 2026-10-16: the Rust plane’s crate had not built without its rails feature since the bench landed (one missing gate line, cured, and a law kept: run the hermetic proof too before a commit); and put to work filed twice had held the chain twice (cured on both kernels — the chain refuses in words while its hold awaits you).
