Orreth’s console speaks a compact working vocabulary. The definitions below are the machine’s own: they are served live by the running console (every canon word there is a clickable definition), and the project’s test suite holds each one to a plain-English contract — self-contained, jargon-free, and under 240 characters. This page and the console share one dictionary; when a definition improves at the machine’s editing gates, this page inherits it at the next refresh.

allocation	a rule naming who may use which mind or tool
assay	a deep grading pass — the machine's own examiner scores finished work, and her findings wait at your gate
canary	a supervised trial — something newly approved works under watch until it earns full trust
canon	the book of the machine itself — the versioned parts it runs on
capability	a whole purpose installed on top of the machine — declared in one folder, approved by you, rendered by the console; remove it and its records remain
chronicle	the book of your purposes — what you asked for and what came back
craft	the words the machine runs on — prompts, rules, sentences; the editable ones are yours to tune, and every version is kept
decommissioned	removed from service by your word — its history stays on the record forever
did	an identity card that cannot be forged or reused — every agent, tool, and mind carries its own, for life
ecosystem	a wing of the universe grouping related floors; addresses write it e:name
epoch	one exact, named version of the whole machine — a new name is cut whenever anything changes
firmware	the machine's own working parts — locked in daily use; changing one issues a new release of the machine
floor	one working room of the universe — agents live and work on it, and everything they do is filed on it
gate	a stopping point where the machine must wait for a human decision — silence never approves
lease	a time-boxed permission to be here and to spend — it expires unless renewed
memory	one signed record of something that happened — the universe keeps its entire life this way, and nothing is silently rewritten
metabolism	the routine that keeps memory healthy — old records compressed, important ones kept warm, and every loss measured
meter	the running bill — every thought and call is counted against the name that spent it
objective	a piece of work you asked for in your own words — it ends with a report back to you
pasture	the retirement calendar — announced end-of-life dates for minds in service
pin	the exact fingerprint of what you approved — if the thing ever changes, the change is caught and you are asked again
planted	a tool approved into the farm — it starts on probation and earns its place
probation	the earning period right after approval — watched closely until it proves itself
quarantined	held aside because something changed or looked wrong — nothing serves until your re-approval
reflex	a standing watch that reacts to an event by raising it to you — it never acts on its own
release	the ceremony that changes the machine's own parts — the new version is staged, you approve it, and the machine takes a new version name; the old version stays behind it forever
resident	a built-in staff member of the machine, one per duty — click its name to talk to it
resting	paused by your word — its place is kept and nothing is spent until you resume it
rollup	the living totals a tier keeps for everything below it — memories, work, spend — without ever pulling the raw records up
saddled	a mind made ready for work — its terms approved and pinned, its stall standing
scope	an address in the world — universe, then wing, then floor; every record and permission names exactly where it applies
shelf	where the machine keeps every versioned word and value it runs on — prompts, rules, settings; an edit makes a new version, and nothing is overwritten
staged	written and waiting at a gate — nothing happens until someone decides
stall	one approved mind's place in the stable, with the terms you approved pinned to it
studio	the mind that reads every ask before work begins — what it understood and planned rides on the very card you approve
universe	the whole world this console shows — every floor, agent, and record under one set of rules
watchlist	standing instructions to repeat work on a schedule — one approval starts it, one click stops it
workforce	outside minds that joined through the front gate and work under a lease
worldline	the full life story of one thing — every event it ever lived, on the record
yardstick	your own standard for judging work — every grade names the yardstick it was measured by

A note on the two vocabularies

These docs lead with plain engineering terms and show the machine’s names as labels — “the tool registry (shown in the console as the Farm)”. The console keeps its own register because several of its words are load-bearing distinctions with no shorter engineering equivalent (saddled is not merely “configured”; quarantined is not merely “disabled”). When you meet a dotted underline in the live console, it is this dictionary answering.
