The walk — making an agent
This is the Studio’s proof, SPEC-STUDIO-01, told as a story for a person at a keyboard. Part A is by hand on a bench; Part B is by the agent from one brief. Every typed sentence stands alone in a code block; a Yes is always a click, never Enter. Part A passed on 2026-10-13 and its step 11 on 2026-10-14; Part B passed through its sixth step on 2026-10-16. The formal walk record of steps 8 to 10 is still owed on the register.
Part A — by hand
Section titled “Part A — by hand”1 · The rail. Say open the studio. The left rail reads YOUR BENCHES first (none yet, or the ones you left), then LOOSE DRAFTS, then THE SHELF folded by kind with counts, then THE HOUSE folded under one row. The chat’s residents rail shows the house · N folded. Nothing scrolls; a search by name opens every fold.
2 · A new bench. Click + new agent, name it studio1, next. The rail shows
studio1 · at GRAPH; the inspector is the wizard at GRAPH; the bench’s row is lit.
3 · The place survives. Click leave the bench. Reload the page. Open the Studio: the bench stands on the rail at GRAPH; click its row and the wizard opens there, the name filled. In the chat:
open the studio1 benchThe same.
4 · The drafts under the bench. GRAPH echo, next; one golden case hello → HELLO, next;
SAVE. Three drafts stand under the bench’s row (not under LOOSE DRAFTS). Click the template draft:
the inspector says this draft is on the studio1 bench, which stands at PUT TO WORK, with a link
to open it there.
5 · One word, two faces. Click put studio1 to work → the interlock. The chat holds one act whose words name the whole chain, and the bench lists the same lines; nothing is on the shelf yet. Click Yes — do it on the card. The chat’s pinned hold folds to held at the interlock · you said yes; Done, on your word lands in the chat naming the graph and the golden set on the shelf and the experiment room open; the bench moves to THE CARD by itself. Say it again now:
put studio1 to workRefused in words — an experiment on studio1 is already running … its card is the next step.
6 · A bench, let go. Say:
my benchesstudio1 · at THE CARD · 0 drafts · an experiment open — the drafts are spent by the cuts. Then:
let the studio1 bench gothe studio1 bench is let go — 0 drafts discarded, 1 experiment declined; what reached the shelf stays. The rail shows 1 bench at rest · show; the shelf keeps studio1.v0 and its golden set; nothing promoted.
7 · Joined closes the bench. + new agent → studio2, echo, hello → HELLO, SAVE, PUT TO
WORK, Yes; the card; PROMOTE, Yes; studio2 JOINED. The bench rests on its own and studio2 stands
in the chat’s residents rail above the house.
8 · The true graph. + new agent → lang1, GRAPH import, + register a source now: a
name, a repository holding a compiled LangGraph with the nodes greet → shout, its commit, the
entry langgraph_app:graph; a golden case hello → HI HELLO; SAVE; PUT TO WORK, Yes. When the
card lands the canvas shows the code’s own graph — start · greet · shout · end, the conditional way
out dashed — read by the trial run. PROMOTE, Yes, JOINED. In the JOINED step’s box, ask hello:
the reply HI HELLO lands, greet and shout light, the last run took 2 hops: greet → shout. Ask
yo: hi yo, one hop lit.
9 · Boxes inside boxes. Open the lang1 bench. One drawing: THE HULL the outer box with hear → recall → route → work → reply; inside work your graph; inside the import block the code’s own graph. First sight is centred on your graph; fit shows the whole; drag pans, the wheel zooms. Click the import’s header: it folds to 4 nodes inside · lang-src · open ▸; click, it opens. Say:
lang1, helloWhen the reply lands, hear · recall · route · work light the ring, taken; greet and shout light in turn, hop 1, hop 2; then reply. On a bench at THE CARD, replay case 1 · “hello” plays the trial’s hops through the boxes.
10 · How the kernel works. Close the Studio. Say:
how the kernel worksA window over the Panel draws the kernel’s map — seven boxes with one ask’s road numbered 1 → 7 — its line naming this kernel, its version and schema, the live counts on the boxes. Click a header to fold it; click a block to read it; Esc closes the window and nothing else. HOW IT WORKS on the sill opens the same. On the Python reference the same map draws, its line naming reference.
11 · One word to work. + new agent → work1, echo, hello → HELLO, SAVE: the strip
reads PUT TO WORK and the step says one word, one Yes. After it joins, make work1 again with the
same drafts and click PUT TO WORK: refused before any hold — the work1 template stands unchanged
(version 1). Change its words at NAME, SAVE, PUT TO WORK: the hold reads the graph and the golden
set as stands (version 1) — unchanged, skipped and the agent as version 2 → the experiment.
Part B — by the agent
Section titled “Part B — by the agent”1 · The brief. Open the Studio; its first screen names the brief. In the chat:
make an agent called greeter that answers hello in three languages, with a golden case per language, on the opus stallThe wizard does not open. The agent thinks on opus (the Panel’s gateway organ names it on the meter). Within a minute the rail shows a bench greeter with its drafts — the graph greeter.v0, the prompt greeter-words, the golden set, the template — and the agent’s reply says what it made and that the Yes is yours.
2 · The one hold. In the chat, a hold this chat did not type — workshop made greeter on your brief · files put it to work · your Yes — with the chain’s lines, the prompt first, and its own Yes and Cancel. Click the greeter bench on the rail: its card at PUT TO WORK holds the same ask. Nothing of greeter stands on the shelf yet.
3 · Read before the Yes. Click the golden set draft: three cases, one per language, each expecting short words the reply must contain. Click the graph: one think node pinned to the opus stall, with its prompt. Click the template: kind agent, graph greeter.v0, a nature in one line, a mind naming opus’s model. Every draft is yours to edit by hand here.
4 · The Yes. Click Yes on either face. One line per landing in the chat; the experiment opens on greeter in its room; the bench at THE CARD; the canvas lights the trial’s hops as the room’s record lands.
5 · The gate. Within a minute the card reads candidate: 3 passed, 0 failed, the four reviewers signed, the leaning to promote. Only if a case failed, say:
workshop, fix the greeter golden set so every case expects words the reply containsand then fix the golden cases on the card.
6 · The promotion and the ask. Click PROMOTE, Yes. Then:
say hello to greeterbody joined greeter; the reply greets in three languages — on the walk of 2026-10-16, Hello. Hola. Bonjour. Good to see you, jb. — and its journey names the think node and the stall.
what levels are here?lists the experiment room beside the floor greeter stands on.
7 · The measure. Write how well Orreth made greeter against what you would have written by hand: the graph, the prompt’s words, the cases, the template’s nature, and what the agent got wrong. This step is the owner’s, and it is owed.
Throughout, what the agent may never do held: it cut nothing, promoted nothing, seated nothing, registered nothing, answered no hold.
